It was hard work, fun and got lots of people involved and the evening added £756 to the Village Hall Car Park Fund, well done everyone, especially the audience; without their brilliant, active participation it would all have been pointless. | Submitted by: stanleyG On: 1/5/2017 at: 10:21 Location: Drimpton Rainfall in April '17 I had anticipated that this April, rainfall could have been summarized in two words ‘Very Dry’, and then, along came the last day of the month which gave us just over an inch. Even so, I have recorded rain on only four days during the month giving me a total of 33.5mm or 1.32 inches, as against last year when I recorded 13 days in which we had rain. Surprisingly the totals were not that dissimilar at 40mm. or 1.58 inches with most of those days delivering very small showers. No wonder the label of April Showers has been applied. |

| Submitted by: andrew On: 1/4/2017 at: 14:13 Location: Drimpton, Netherhay Community Land Trust Update Site feasibility surveys of the proposed site at Netherhay Lane, Drimpton were completed during February. Trewin Design will submit a revised layout plan to Dorset County Partnerships for Pre-Application discussion with Planners. This meeting was expected to take place around the end of March. The CLT’s preferred option would be to install an on-site sewerage system for this development. This would not impact on the mains sewer in view of the problems currently experienced in Marksmead and Oxhayes in Drimpton. Dorset Council Partnerships’ Housing Need information indicates that there are currently 14 households registered within the Broadwindsor Group Parish area. A draft Allocation Plan specific to this site is being developed by the CLT and Yarlington Housing Group. This will be for properties to rent and shared ownership properties and will outline priorities and provide definitions of ‘local connections’. A quarterly newsletter - BGP CLT News is now available on our website (see link below) as well as on the Parish Council, Broadwindsor and Drimpton websites. Copies are also available from Broadwindsor Community Stores, the pubs and village halls in Broadwindsor and Drimpton and Kittwhistle Garage. | Submitted by: andrew On: 1/4/2017 at: 14:12 Location: Drimpton, Netherhay extracts from newsletters for April and May DRIMPTON VILLAGE HALL & RECREATION TRUST - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING At the AGM on 6th MARCH the Chairman reported on another year in which the Hall had continued to maintain the status quo. However, she expressed her disappointment that no progress had been made on an extension to the Car Park. The Committee had been unable to find or raise funding to carry out the much-needed project. Only a small number of residents were present, but those that were, were confident that, with a concerted effort by the Village, the money could be raised. They made suggestions of a number of activities which have been popular and financially rewarding in the past. We were reminded of how various Village Groups had raised much of the money for the Kitchen Refurbishment. The Chairman thanked those Committee Members who were standing down, for their support and hard work. They are Roger Smith, Linda Smith, David Glossop and Lee Drayton. Unfortunately, there are to be no new members to replace them. From "Oh What A Beautiful Morning" to "The Surrey with the Fringe on Top", the film rolls along with foot-tapping melodies. Starring Gordon MacRae, Shirley Jones and Rod Steiger as the menacing Judd, who tries to come between them. WED 10th MAY - SULLY. On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the "Miracle on the Hudson" when Captain "Sully" Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the icy waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded for his amazing feat of aviation skill, an investigation was underway as to his competence.  A highly-recommended film starring Tom Hanks. Remember that doors open at 1900 when teas, coffee, wine and beer are available. This is the last film in 2016/2017 season. Membership for 2017/2018 will remain at £15 with 11 films; temporary Membership is available at £4.00 per film and films shown in the past are available to borrow with a £1.00 donation. **** LENT LUNCH at the Village Hall WED 12th April at 12.30pm Organised by the Chapel with produce/bring & buy stall in aid of Action for Children. On Good Friday at 10am, the usual procession will take place when the cross is taken from the Methodist Church, and placed in the area adjoining the telephone box next to the bridge. Siddlington Studios (Drimpton Village Hall!) is shooting the latest British blockbuster, 'A Bittersweet Affair', and competition winners (the audience - you!!!) have been invited along for a day to watch the filming and to see what goes on behind the camera. The cast and crew have been working on the film for a few weeks and tensions are running high. Old flames, jealous lovers and past tragedy are just a few of the extras to make an appearance. Will the competition winners get to see more than just their favourite film stars and will everyone make it safely to the end of the day…? You, the audience interrogate the cast and try to work-out whodunnit! | Submitted by: stanleyG On: 1/4/2017 at: 13:37 Location: Drimpton Rainfall in March 2017 Having just heard that the temperature in one part of the country reached 22C before the end of March, and this was well above the ‘norm’, it is clear that mild weather is still the order of the day. This or course has a marked affect on most things ‘Horticultural’. However the most impressive sight since Christmas, and indeed a little before, have been the Daffodils. This really has been the “Year of the Daffodil†Of course hybridism must play a large part, in that the growing season has been stretched from December to well into Spring and the mild winter has given them all the help they needed. Rainfall in March this year has been almost identical to last year with many days of just a little rain, mostly at the beginning and the end of the month. March 2017 85.25mm.(2016 86.25) or 3.37 inches (2016 3.4 inches). |
